Back… I think

My apologies for being so absent. Not to make excuses, but here are my excuses: My 2016 taxes say that I had 5 different employers (I think that also adds up to about 500 job applications). I moved. I got MARRIED! The past year has been a whirl wind of huge life changes, lessons in patience, and amazing adventures. Through it all, God has reminded me that He has everything under the sun in His control and that His plans are greater than anything we could imagine. He has also filled my life with some of the best people that this world has to offer. I’m hoping my brain will have some free bandwidth in the coming months, which means I can get back to cooking food, creating art and sharing my adventures with you…

Where to begin…

Greetings from somewhere in the 7 month post baby.  I actually have a 3 month post baby update somewhere.  Maybe I’ll publish that later… Jenny and I are still alive and well as far as I’m aware. 🙂  Jenny is now married (!), has a job (!), and is probably conquering the world. Aannnd nothing much has changed in my life. Carter and I have a case of the Mondays today which means that I’m somehow so tired that I could cry which means he’s boycotting nap time and crying every chance he gets.  Which means that me could crying is turning into actual tears.  #AndthenIwenttoStarbucks #AndTarget #YesIamastayathomemom Cale has promised sweet parenting relief as soon as he enters the door.  But since it’s Monday and it’s that kind of Monday probably won’t be until 7 or later. Despite everything listed above I’ve never been in a sweeter moment of life and, in fact, cannot imagine how life gets much sweeter.  My little family of three is enjoying this time in life of being the world’s best homebodies.  Cale and I celebrate every time…

The Easiest Fruit Tarts

Have I mentioned that our neighborhood has the world’s best block parties?  Actually, I think they have a party every night but we seriously can’t keep up. Can’t hang. Too old. Or something. Anyways, a couple times a summer they make a big effort to get everyone on our circle together.  Bounce houses are rented, food trucks are brought in (seriously), and everyone brings a dish to pass. Cue immediate panic.  You know… you want people to like what you’ve brought, you want it to look decent, and you don’t want to worry about how to keep it warm. Enter the world’s easiest fruit tarts ever.  Refrigerated cookie dough, instant pudding, and whatever fruit is in season.  Can you imagine these with peaches and raspberries right now?  Yum! To make the cute little fruit cups you divide the refrigerated dough up using the little squares they already have pre-cut.  Roll each into a ball and stick them into mini cupcake tins.  As they bake, they form to the outside edges and like magic you have tiny cups.  You may have to use a spoon to crack…

The First Weeks

Our sweet little baby is [already!] almost 3 weeks old and we can hardly believe it.  We’re living in this precious little moment of time when when we simultaneously can’t wait to see what happens when he’s a little bit old (and sleeping a little bit better) to tearing up when we think of how fast time has already gone. Please tell us this is normal. This week Lil’ C came down with a stuffy nose and is quite the loud sleeper so Cale finally had to move down to the living room last night because one of us has to be functional at a day job while the other one just snuggles our little bug all day.  Leading up to this we had a sweet baby who would sleep 5 hours in a row at night… So this might have only happened twice but we hope he remembers how to do this after the cold is gone.  Wishful thinking?!? We got off oxygen last week so walks have become a little bit more frequent but our most favorite thing to do is to sit and stare at each other.  I have…
